Measuring Guide
Print
this page and use as a reference guide.
Please record all measurements in INCHES. Print
legibly in black ink, or use a black felt tip marker, such as a
Sharpie fine point. Do not write in pencil or blue ink, as these
do not fax clearly.
1. Take
a photo of each wall, and label each wall NORTH, EAST, SOUTH, and
WEST, accordingly. (Refer to the Taking
Photos guide for more details).
Floor
Plan
2. On
a blank sheet of paper, draw a floor plan of your room. Label each
wall NORTH, EAST, SOUTH and WEST, accordingly. Draw in key elements:
doors, windows, openings, fireplace hearth, built-ins, columns,
etc.
3. Using
a steel measuring tape, measure the length and width of the room
by running the measuring tape down the center of the room in both
directions. Record these measurements as shown.
4. If
elements project into the room (i.e., fireplace hearth, built-ins,
walls, columns, etc.), simply measure the depth of the projection
from front to back. Indicate the name of the projection along with
its measurement as shown.

Elevation
Diagram
5. On
a separate sheet of paper, draw an elevation diagram of each wall.
Label each wall NORTH, EAST, SOUTH, and WEST, accordingly. Draw
in key elements (i.e., doors, windows, openings, fireplace, etc.),
as shown.
6. Measure
the height and width of each section of the elevation, and record
the measurements as shown.

Window
and Door Template
7. From
the Window and Door Templates,
select a template that best illustrates your windows / doors, and
fill in the information as shown in the sample window template.
